Our client in Ely approached us in need of a therapy room to use for her beauty therapy business. The room had to work as both a nail bar and massage room, with enough space for two massage beds to be used at the same time.

Upon a free site consultation we realised that the client was very fortunate to have gorgeous uninterrupted views of farmland. Once she decided to go ahead, we designed the garden building to make the most of the views by including lots of glass on two sides of the building.

Groundworks were easy for this build. We used our innovative ground screw foundations – so no concrete or diggers- and had a blank canvas to start work on. We’re not put off by more complicated settings though – in fact, ground screw foundations are great for putting foundations into areas where traditional foundations would be more challenging – and in all weather conditions. We can even screw through concrete, and all types of top and sub soils without damaging surrounding areas.

Independent access

We constructed an independent entry point so not to allow access to the new 5m x 4m building without disturbing family life in the main house. This was achieved by removing a section of fencing, and a bespoke gate was fashioned from the recycled panel – to ensure it blended nicely into the remaining fence. (Our Vivid Green team consists of experienced tradesmen, so we are always happy to help our clients with any extra requirements like this).

Bespoke details

The benefit of having a bespoke garden room is that details like electricity and plumbing can be positioned wherever works best for you. In this case, we installed discreet floor sockets for use with the massage tables, and high level sockets above where the work surfaces were to be for use with other smaller therapy equipment.

Furnishing

After we had left site, the client got to work moving her business into the new garden studio.

The worktops and cabinets provided plenty of storage, helping to retain the clutter free and modern feel of the room.

We love getting to see the buildings in use, so our client very kindly send us some photos. We think her garden room looks even bigger once furnished.

Treatments by night

To ensure that the therapy room could be used safely throughout the year and into the evening, attractive spotlights were installed to the exterior of the building. The build took place in three weeks, and across November and December – so the evening lights were very handy. They also do a great job of making our Western Red Cedar look lovely.

The client has added some sheer voiles to the windows for privacy. During the day they also let in plenty of light. External downlights mean that the garden room is well lit for use in the evenings.
