Summer Family Room, Waterlooville
A stylish studio with space to relax inside and out, the perfect place to entertain and enjoy the summer sun with family and friends.

Garden rooms that are better than the house
As the children get older, the needs of your family home change and your house doesn’t provide the space you need any more. You might believe building an extension or knocking down a wall or two is your only option.
Redesigning your home isn’t always an option, it can be expensive, planning regulations just too restrictive then there’s the disruption building work brings. That’s why we believe a garden family room could be the perfect solution.

Getting the garden space exactly right
The design for this family garden studio had to be very exact, as it had to fit into a garden that had only just been perfectly landscaped.
In addition, the dimensions were dictated as 4.28m x 4.28m to fit within the garden scheme. We worked with the landscaping team to ensure the position was perfect and as envisioned.
Before arriving on-site, the landscapers had prepared the area ready for the garden studio, by constructing a level concrete base. We took over the build from this point. An ‘inside out’ feeling was the main requirement of the brief from the client – to create a new family chill-out area. This influenced the design and decisions made as to the positioning of the windows and the choice to not include decking.
To achieve a continuous design, the windows were installed on the corner, allowing the space to open up fully allowing the garden to feel like part of the interior space. The lack of decking meant that the room literally spilt out straight onto the newly landscaped surfaces without a visual barrier – creating a feel of floating space.
Benefits of a family garden room
This was such a rewarding build, as the landscapers had also chosen to use sustainable Western Red Cedar for the new outdoor kitchen area and to incorporate a ‘floating’ effect water feature. These three elements of the kitchen, garden studio and the water feature looked fantastic together.
Underfloor heating was selected in order to maximise wall space and minimise clutter – also making space useable all year round. Designing the studio in keeping with the stylish modern landscaping.
Designed for serious BBQ days! The image shows the best view of the garden – from the new outdoor kitchen area with the floating garden studio in the background. Doesn’t it look great?
