Pooja Room – a state-of-the-art facility
Set in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside, Great Glen Crematorium is a tranquil setting to hold a dignified Funeral service.

The crematorium conducts many different types of services, of which, approximately 1 in 4 are Hindu Services. More and more this service is being conducted in the Crematorium Chapel.
The Hindu Tradition is that the deceased is taken home one final time – to where a Pooja ceremony takes place with a Priest and close family members. During this ceremony the coffin is open – food and other offerings are made to the deceased – with prayers before the coffin is closed.
Creating a spiritual solution
Following consultations with the community, a decision was made to create a purpose-built building – to offer a dedicated space for Pooja Ceremonies to take place. The solution offered a private venue designed specifically for Hindu families with better washing facilities and privacy. In doing so, releasing the main chapel to enable better flow for other community services.

Leaving an eternal legacy
The completion of the building for means Hindu families are offered privacy. They are able to carry the coffin from the Pooja Building to the main Chapel for the committal service before they witness charging the coffin.
After which the mourners vacate the chapel and return to the PoojaBuilding to receive the attendees and pray and give offerings to Lord Shiva in private.
Great Glen provides an exemplary level of service and being away from the main chapel means families gain a calm and tranquil setting in which to hold a dignified Funeral service.
A lasting gift
Local businessman, Mr Raja, kindly donated a White Marble Lord Shiva Statue, designed to sit outside the Pooja building.
The launch for this new facility, which is the first of its kind in the UK and Europe, was on Saturday the 2nd of February. Many hundreds attended on the day for the blessing of the building and of the Statue of Lord Shiva.
The event was well-received, and the building is seen as an elegant and fitting solution for the entire local community.
