How to create the perfect zen zone in the garden
The client’s vision was to create that perfect Zen Zone – a retreat in the form of a tranquil, uncluttered chill-out room, away from the hustle and bustle of the main house.
The vision was a glass of wine or cup of coffee in hand, by herself or with friends and family, so she could relax and unwind, gazing out onto her lovely garden. A space to chill out!

Working around the limitations of the site
To complete the groundworks and in order to level the sloping ground on which the garden room was to be built, our installation team needed a mini-digger. In addition, the only access was through the garage and down steps into the garden! However, because the buildings are bespoke, our skilled team rose to the challenge and was able to navigate the components to the site and were soon proceeding with the build.
Measuring 3m x 4.5m internally, the garden room is clad in Western Red Cedar – high quality and gorgeously vibrant wood. Elegantly framed with charcoal grey aluminium, with three panelled sliding glass doors to provide a fabulously bright and airy outlook.
Our designers suggested the addition of a window on the right side of the building to create a seamless double aspect and reward the client with extra light making a fantastic open-air feeling so that the room really feels part of the garden.
Fixtures and fittings to create an idyllic garden retreat
The Zen Zone garden room was fitted with up and downlights, as well as plenty of sockets to accommodate every electrical and lighting need.
The client wanted a beautiful, spacious and bright canvas on which to create her perfect safe haven. Therefore, PIR light sensors are fitted to the outside of the building. They detect movement and switch on automatically, providing our client with peace of mind and a safe passage to her garden room in the dark.
The spacious decking area provides the perfect place to sit outside, relax and socialise with friends. Composite decking was the ideal choice, as it is hard-wearing and zero maintenance.
Working around established and much-loved trees is something we do more often than expected. Our competent team were cleverly able to integrate the pear tree into the decking.
