Family Games Room in East Finchley
This games room is the stuff of childhood dreams!

These fun-loving clients decided to invest in a family games room with enough space for a 7ft pool table and numerous activities!
Our clients in North London had a clear idea of what they wanted in a room, with the primary focus being on having enough space to fit (and play on) a 7ft pool table.
When building a room for this use, considerations have to be made to ensure that there’s enough space to ensure walls arent damaged when players extend their cues. In fact, our original design had to be tweaked just one week prior to building, to provide an extra 15 inches of playing space. The thing’s we’ll do for our kids…

Maximum natural light
The 4m, 4-panel bi-fold doors dominate the front of the family games room, and on a warm summers day will allow the space to open up into the garden for a fabulous BBQ games zone!
Two more slimline floor-to-ceiling windows were added on either side of the large central panels, to ensure that the ends of the room were as light as the middle and that there would be a good view from any seating on either end of the pool table.
A small high-level window was added to the rear elevation, to provide ventilation on days when the front doors would be closed. It also allows for a nice breeze when all the doors are open.
Cladding
Larch was chosen as the primary material for cladding the family games room. Where Western Red Cedar has remained very popular for many years, Larch is now becoming the wood of choice, due to the fact that it doesn’t fade upon UV exposure as dramatically (and often unevenly) as Cedar. Larch is already 3/4 of the way to its final colour shade when it is built with and therefore requires less oiling to prevent fade – making it easy to maintain over time.
Surprisingly spacious!
The building is 8.2m wide x 3.7 deep x 2.5m high. Its size meant the games room had to be well-positioned at the rear of the garden. Vivid Green designed it to be forward-facing, which left ample room in the garden to also cater for the children’s mini summer-house, climbing apparatus and slide.
