Dedicated Art Studio
Space for creativity

The client, an artist living and working in Hampstead Heath, needed a dedicated Art Studio to work from…
The brief was simple – the studio was to be in keeping with the house, authentic in design and importantly – invisible from the street.
This discrete artist studio solution is positioned in the courtyard garden of this beautiful period home in Hampstead Heath but is also hidden from the street. The roof of the studio (a living roof) sloped towards the back fence of the clients’ property, shielding the building from the road, whilst blending into the garden landscape.

Built to blend in...
The client had a clear idea of what he wanted. The building was to look like it had always been there and to be in keeping with its surroundings.
The benefit of a Vivid Green building is that all our projects are bespoke – therefore to deliver the client’s vision, we clad the garden room in Thermowood® stained black – the same colour as the fencing and exterior of the main house.
We went one step further to ensure the artist studio seamlessly matched its surroundings. Looking at the Garden Room from within the courtyard garden, you can see that the wooden windows match those of the main house. The doors and windows are bespoke frames, made from timber and imported specially from Europe.
Completing the masterpiece...
The ground level for this site was sloping – the challenges of a sloping site are always an opportunity for some imaginative design and build know-how.
Therefore before the construction of the studio could commence, the Vivid Green installation team incurred 2 days of groundwork in order to level the area. This offered an additional design enhancement – a short retaining wall – built to hold back the surrounding high ground.
Industrial interior design is all about embracing raw and exposed styling. The client chose to not opt for plasterboard or painted walls. This on-trend industrial interior was given an authentic arty feel by leaving the SIPS panels bare and running the electrical cables through the space with exposed aluminium trunking. An engineered wooden floor, which was sanded to give a worn and aged appearance, completed the look.
The windows were positioned for the greatest light capture. The interior of the art studio was designed with large well-positioned windows and skylights, to bounce light off the bare walls and offer plenty of natural light.
In total, the build took just three weeks to complete, including groundwork – which proved to be quite complex due to being situated directly above the underground! The completed space provides a great canvas for this artistic client who was able to be creative in their new space in quick time.
