structural insulated panels (SIPs)

Any shape and arrangement of windows and doors can be accommodated

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) have been used to construct buildings up to four storeys high for many years. Each 2400 x 1200mm panel is essentially a 2.4 metre beam so structures are inherently very robust with integral insulation. Installation of the building is rapid, typically one day for the superstructure and creating a draft free space is much easier than with traditional building methods. SIPs are used for the floor and walls and, in many instances, the roof as well.

SIPs allow rapid construction; Six hours in this case

Insulation is HCFC free Polyurethane foam zero rated for ozone depletion. For a garden office of approximately 10m², the difference in heating costs between the Penthouse 100 and Penthouse 150 garden offices will be approximately £30 a year.

The difference in heating costs between the Penthouse 150 and a typical garden office specification will be approximately £200 a year. All figures depend on set temperature and fuel source. Figures based on set temperature of 19°C and electric underfloor heating. For further information on SIPs visit: www.sips.uk.com

windows and doors

High level opening windows provide light and ventilation Floor to ceiling windows allow views of a steeply sloping garden Full length windows and a vaulted ceiling Robust doors with 3 point locking Timber + aluminium windows with two locking points High level opening windows provide light and ventilation

The standard specification for windows and doors is double glazing of 4mm separated by a 16mm gap. A heat reflecting coating is used on the inner surface of the glass. Safety glass is used where Building Regulations demand it and can be used elsewhere. Triple as well as double glazed windows and doors are also now available.

heating

Existing concrete foundations may be suitable
Our underfloor heating system is very efficient and is unlikely to cost more than £0.50 a day in Winter.

Programmable and thermostatically controlled, the system allows you the opportunity to have a warm office waiting for you in the morning and to turn the system down at weekends and holidays.

surfaces and finishes

Traditional tongue and groove cladding Simple cladding with 6mm shadow gap (horizontal) Simple cladding with 6mm shadow gap (vertical) Cedar shingles are an attractive, long life material for the roof Lindab galvanised steel guttering is optional A plasterboard finish provides fire protection and a neat, clean internal finish with recessed sockets and hidden wiring

External cladding choices are many and varied but would typically be 18mm Cedar, Larch or Douglas Fir fitted with stainless steel screws to prevent unsightly staining. Rendered external surfaces are also possible to match existing buildings. Internal surface finishes include plasterboard or Oriented Strand Board finished with paint or plaster. Almost any type of floor covering can be fitted. Please call for options and prices.

foundations

Existing concrete foundations may be suitable 200mm of compacted hardcore over subsoil provide new foundations and extensions to existing foundations

Our lightweight structures do not necessarily require concrete foundations and we can advise on the most appropriate support for your building when we survey the site. If an existing concrete slab is sufficiently strong we use telescopic pedestals to create a level base for the floor.
